The full-day celebration brought together leading designers, artisans, weavers, institutions, influencers, and cultural representatives from across India. The event was graced by eminent dignitaries including Chief Guest Miss Sabrella Marak, MCS, Additional Resident Commissioner, Meghalaya House, Special Guest Sarita Duhan, Executive Director, FDDI Rohtak, Prashant Kumar, Director of Publicity, FDDI, Shashank, Designer, NIFT Foundation for Design Innovation, representatives from Meghalaya Tourism, and Harshit Dhingaun, Chairman of Delhi Fashion Club and Founder & Show Director of Delhi Fashion Week. The event also welcomed Mrs. Kiren Sethi, Sub-Inspector, Delhi Police, widely known as “Lady Singham”, for her remarkable work in women’s safety and self-defence training.

The inaugural ceremony included lamp lighting and felicitations recognizing contributors and leaders shaping India’s fashion and textile ecosystem. The Delhi Fashion Summit – Season 1 was launched during the event as a knowledge platform focused on sustainable fashion, handloom entrepreneurship, women-led self-employment, and empowerment of rural and tribal weavers. Grassroots speakers from Meghalaya, including Iaishah Rymbai, shared inspiring stories on how handloom weaving has empowered women and created livelihoods.

The FDDI Naari Shakti Collection celebrated eco-conscious design and inclusivity, featuring mature women on the runway as symbols of confidence and empowerment. Elegant gowns by Kamari by Kajal Verma added glamour and sophistication to the segment. The Viksit Bharat Sutra Show highlighted Khadi and handloom heritage, opening with Celebrity Designer Rosy Ahluwalia and followed by a fusion-Khadi collection by FDDI, combining traditional weaves with modern silhouettes.

A major highlight was the International Reinvent Northeast Showcase, which began with the Bodoland Handloom segment presented by Anita Daimari & Laijou Brahma, featuring authentic Bodo weaves and traditional motifs honoring Bodoland’s textile legacy. The Meghalaya Tourism Grand Showcase, supported by Meghalaya Tourism, opened with a live performance by SKUBO Band, led by Peter from Garo Hills, followed by Garo Handloom creations by Lakme Marak and her team Ernieford and Khasi & Jaintia Eri Silk designs by Iaishah Rymbai (Eri Weave), blending traditional craftsmanship with modern aesthetics. The segment reached its pinnacle with Annu Marbaniang, International Fitness Icon, as the showstopper, leaving the audience enthralled with her poise and elegance.

The event also marked the launch of the International Delhi Fashion Awards (IDFA) to honor excellence in fashion and creative industries. Iaishah Rymbai and Lakme Marak were recognized as Best Handloom Designers from Meghalaya, while Miss Sabrella Marak received a Special Contribution Award for her efforts in promoting Meghalaya’s creative talent.

The Pre-Finale by Celebrity Designer Ashfaque Ahmad featured luxurious couture gowns, followed by the Grand Finale by NIFT Foundation for Design Innovation – Bhasha Bharat, showcasing the exquisite Bhagalpur Silk Sarees. Mrs. Universe Oceania 2025, Archana Niranjan, dazzled as the official grand finale showstopper, earning a standing ovation for the seamless blend of cultural depth and high fashion.

Harshit Dhingaun highlighted the collective efforts behind promoting Indian handlooms, empowering artisans, supporting sustainable fashion, and strengthening India’s creative economy under the vision of Viksit Bharat. He reaffirmed Delhi Fashion Week’s alignment with Vocal for Local, Atmanirbhar Bharat, Skill India, and Digital India missions.

The event marked 10 years of planning and 5 years of waiting to secure the trademark registration of Delhi Fashion Week, culminating in the realization of a long-held vision.

Delhi Fashion Week – Season 2 has been announced for March 2026, with registrations opening on 18 December 2025 for designers, models, artisans, brands, institutions, and creative professionals. The next season promises larger showcases, deeper regional collaborations, and stronger support for handloom-driven and sustainable fashion ecosystems across India.

The meticulously designed lehenga, adorned with 5D peacock embroidery and embellished with real pearls and rubies, was selected by the Europe-Asia Fashion Alliance (EAFA), the official fashion partner of Cannes. Crafted entirely using traditional handwork on Khadi tissue, the lehenga featured India’s national bird — the peacock — highlighted with silver ghungroos and intricate detailing. The total cost of creating the garment reportedly reached ₹4 lakh, a testament to its craftsmanship and cultural value.

What makes the selection even more exceptional is that Cannes typically favors western gown formats for its red carpet events. But Dr. Sharma’s design broke conventions — it impressed the selection committee so much that they lifted the gown-only requirement, allowing her to retain the bridal form and merely adapt it to a gown silhouette.

Unfortunately, as the festival approached in mid-May, rising tensions between India and Pakistan led to canceled flights from Jodhpur and widespread logistical issues. With her travel plans disrupted, Dr. Sharma missed the opportunity to physically attend the Cannes Film Festival, which ran from May 13 to 24.

Despite this setback, Dr. Sharma has already received invitations to both the next edition of Cannes and the prestigious Paris Fashion Show, reaffirming the industry’s recognition of her talent and artistry. She underwent a rigorous five-round selection process that included video interviews and detailed dress sketches, with final confirmation arriving in February 2025.

Dr. Sharma remains optimistic, stating that her mission continues beyond the red carpet. Through her Vastrashala Academy, she trains rural, urban, and underprivileged youth in fashion design, textiles, AI-based fashion tech, and embroidery. Her vision is to empower future designers to represent India globally, just as she has.

While geopolitical tensions may have delayed her Cannes debut, Dr. Sharma’s journey is far from over — and her art continues to make waves, both at home and abroad.

Organizer Ram Yadav highlighted the significance of the event, stating, "Each year, 'The Ellenites Showcase' offers our fashion design students a platform to exhibit their creativity and craftsmanship. This year, the bar was set even higher with an array of diverse and innovative designs."

The fashion extravaganza was a visual feast, featuring themes that ranged from traditional to contemporary. Sixteen female and nine male models strutted down the runway, bringing to life the unique visions of the student designers. The show highlighted traditional arts like the famous blue pottery of Jaipur and the intricate chikankari embroidery of Lucknow, seamlessly integrated into modern designs.

Among the standout collections was 'Bluekari,' a fusion of blue pottery and chikankari. This collection, designed by Himanshi Sharma, Somya Agarwal, and Sunaina Shekhawat, masterfully blended the timeless elegance of these crafts with the dynamic energy of street style fashion. 'Bluekari' encapsulated the rich cultural heritage of India, telling a story of craftsmanship and tradition reimagined for the contemporary urban dweller. The silhouettes incorporated elements from both crafts, creating ensembles that were both cohesive and visually striking.

The students' creativity shone through other themed sequences such as Zulu Art, Queen’s Luster, Cluster Cosmos, Primordial Princess, The Unsung Warrior, Kokhloma, Threads of Tradition, Decode the Red, Bedlah, and Y2K Bazaar. Each theme showcased a unique blend of colors, textures, and designs, reflecting the students' deep understanding and appreciation of fashion as an art form.

The models' stunning transformations were courtesy of Kajal Bansal and her team from Kajal Makeup Artistry. Their skillful makeovers complemented the students' designs, enhancing the overall impact of the show. Special guests, fashion designers Padmaraj Keshri and Prashant Shivam, graced the event, adding to its prestige. The choreography, orchestrated by Shrikant Sharma and Isha Sharma, ensured a seamless and captivating flow throughout the evening.

The Ellenites Showcase was not just a fashion show but a celebration of creativity and innovation. The applause and admiration from the audience were a testament to the hard work and dedication of the students, making the event a resounding success. As the curtain fell, it was clear that the future of fashion is bright with the emerging talents from Ellen College of Design.
